A planning application has been submitted for a two-bedroom house and garage in a village near Hadleigh.
The home would be built within the garden of an existing property on Polstead Hill in Polstead to provide accommodation for a family, according to proposals submitted to Babergh District Council.
There would be an open plan kitchen and living room, a downstairs bedroom and a further living space and bedroom upstairs.
Polstead is in a conservation area and the Dedham Vale National Landscape, formerly known as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
To take into account the natural slope of the site, the house will be built into the slope, with the ground floor approximately a metre-and-a-half lower than the driveway and a further lower level concealed within the natural slope.
The property would be built of red brickwork with black stained timber weatherboarding.
It would be accessed via the existing driveway of the property.
Planning documents said the owners have a long-standing connection to the area, with relatives who have lived in Polstead for centuries.
The public consultation on the plans closes on June 3.
