Over 12,000 people attended this year's South Suffolk Show, the show secretary has said.

The popular event, at Ampton Point to Point course near Bury St Edmunds, took place last Saturday, May 18 and ran very smoothly following traffic issues in previous years, according to show secretary, Suzy Stennett.

Suzy said: "The show committee were thrilled with the way that the South Suffolk Show went.

"After issues with traffic congestion at last year's show, a number of steps were taken to improve traffic flow this year, and we are delighted at how effective they proved to be, with the traffic moving smoothly onto the show ground all day."

A first for 2024 was a new equine ring layout on an area that had been reseeded and rolled.

"We were very pleased with how this worked and we hope to build on it next year, developing the area into an equine village with horse trade stands and sponsors," said Suzy.

Other highlights included the HOH equine display team - 'a magical performance' - and the JPL Shetland pony racing team who generated a lot of enthusiasm from the crowd.

"I was also delighted to overhear someone in the crowd declare that the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team, who dropped into the Grand Ring, had made his year," said Suzy.

"The beautiful weather really helped as the clear skies meant that the Falcons could jump from 10,000 feet and they gave us all a stunning aerial display."

The show committee are keen to pass on their huge thanks to all the judges and stewards who gave up their time to ensure the event ran smoothly.

"Without their help, we couldn’t run the show - the same goes to our generous sponsors whose support we very grateful for," Suzy added.
