Competition was stiff in this year’s mascot competition at the Suffolk Show, with animals of all breeds taking to the field.

While there are plenty of serious competitions at the Suffolk Show at Trinity Park each year, with farmers, racers and trainers spending months preparing for their big moment, there are also opportunities for some light-hearted.

The mascot race is all about doing something a little silly in the name of fun, and competitors of all shapes, sizes, colours and breeds all signed up to do their organisation proud.

Don’t let the costumes fool you – every beast who took part in the race was determined to emerge victorious, and they were not afraid to show it.

Bluey and Crazee were representing Ipswich Town. Meanwhile, Easton Trinity ran for Easton Farm Park, Pudsey Bear for BBC Radio Suffolk, Stowmartin for Polstead Press, Jet for the Orwell Panthers Athletic Club, Priscilla for Ladies in Pigs, Fast and Furious George for Suffolk New College.

Meanwhile, King Curle ran for Curle Electrical, Butter Bear for the Buttermarket, Major Brew for Combat2Coffee, Scout for Schools Out Activities, Fastnet Freddy for the East Anglian Sea School, Eddy for the Environment Agency, Timbo Ted for Gen-X Suffolk, and Hunter for Suffolk Lowland Search and Rescue.

There were plenty of tense moments from the race – how would some of the larger beings, such as Major Brew, manage to leap over the hay bales?

But manage it, they did, and the crowd erupted with cheers and laughter at the impromptu scrum.

In the end, it was Fast and Furious George for Suffolk New College who tasted success – but he found himself too bashful to take to the microphone to join in the crowd’s cheers.
