The owners of a vegan café in Ipswich have said they have been on an "amazing journey" after they announced their closure.

Hullabaloo in St Peter's Street announced it will be closing at the end of July in a social media post on Thursday evening.

It is set to serve its final customers on Sunday, July 28.

Owners Jennie Debenham and Jon Halls opened the Ipswich venue five years ago, becoming a much-loved café in the town centre - winning multiple awards along the way.

Mr Halls said: "It's been an amazing journey and we've lived this dream of always wanting this café.

"We had a seed of an idea about what we wanted to create and this amazing entity has come out of it.

"But there's the cost of it, and it's exhausting.

"We have three young children, we live on a boat which needs work doing to it, so we've been trying to manage all of this and also run the café.

"We fear we can't devote enough time to other important elements of our life."

Ms Debenham added: "We're ready for something to take us further.

"For me, I want to do more growing and have more of an outside space where we can have more of a little market garden and do more educational events.

"I do a lot of markets because we need to since Covid, and people say that they don't come to Ipswich anymore and that has impacted us."

Mr Halls added: "This comes with a hefty dose of heart-wrenching and sadness.

"We've got a fantastic, loyal customer base who come here and sit for hours and enjoy it. We've had some lovely feedback since announcing our closure and they have been really understanding and supportive."

The couple will continue to provide bread delivery during the period between the Ipswich café closing and finding a new, more rural space in Suffolk.

Ms Debenham said: "If we can find somewhere with the right facilities, lots of outdoor space, parking, it would be great."

If people are interested in bread deliveries, has any ideas for the next step for Hullabaloo or space that could be useful to the business, they have been encouraged to email Jennie and Jon on this email address.
