A Suffolk MP has been named as the new shadow secretary of state for defence.
James Cartlidge, who was re-elected in South Suffolk following the general election last week, has taken up the position amongst Conservative leader Rishi Sunak's chosen interim opposition ministers.
Mr Cartlidge said: "I’m very proud to have been appointed Shadow Defence Secretary.
"As Minister for Defence Procurement since April 2023, I oversaw significant reform to how the military buys new equipment, and experienced the full gamut of issues affecting our armed forces, including accommodation.
"I want to use that experience to be an effective Shadow at a time when Defence is of paramount importance, given how the world has become a more dangerous place, not least with the conflict in Ukraine.
"Where it is in the national interest I will support the Labour Government – not least on continuing to give as much support as possible to Ukraine.
"Equally, I will ensure the new Government is held to account, particularly that they deliver on their promises to the people who matter here – our service men and women.'"
Also making the cut is James Cleverly who was re-elected as MP for Braintree and who has been given the shadow home secretary role.
Kemi Badenoch, who was re-elected in North West Essex, has been named shadow secretary of state for levelling up, housing and communities.
Meanwhile Steve Barclay, who was re-elected in North East Cambridgeshire, is now shadow secretary of state for the environment, food and rural affairs.
Mr Sunak, the former prime minister, will continue as interim opposition leader with his chosen cabinet until the Conservatives choose a new leader.
