A west Suffolk man has been disqualified from driving after he crashed into a lamppost while more than twice the legal limit.
Officers were called at 3am on June 2 to reports that a silver Mercedes was parked in the middle of Hills Road in Cambridge and the driver was slumped over the steering wheel.
A member of the public woke the driver, 43-year-old Tom Onyango, who then started driving slowly towards the railway station before crashing into a lamppost.
Onyango, of Beck Row near Mildenhall, blew 89 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath at the roadside, more than twice the legal limit of 35.
He went on to provide an evidential reading of 77 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath in custody.
At Cambridgeshire Magistrates' Court on Thursday, he was disqualified from driving for 20 months and ordered to pay a £288 fine.
PC Francesca Lynch said: “We continue to urge motorists to report their concerns around drink and drug drivers across Cambridgeshire so we can make the roads a safer place for everyone.”
