A person has died after being hit a train near a Suffolk village.

Officers were called to reports of a person on the tracks just before 5.40pm on Monday near Elmswell, between Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket.

On Monday evening, Greater Anglia said it was unable to run services between Stowmarket and Bury St Edmunds.

The routes affected included Ipswich to Cambridge via Newmarket and Ipswich to Peterborough via Ely.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police has now confirmed a person was declared dead at the scene.

The spokesman said: "Officers and paramedics attended and sadly a person was pronounced dead.

"The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
