A 23-year-old who took a BMW before being involved in a crash that left a woman with serious injuries has admitted driving carelessly.

The trial of Harry Parnell, from Butley, near Woodbridge, for dangerous driving was due to start on Wednesday.

He has admitted to aggravated vehicle taking and causing serious injury by driving carelessly.

The Butley man also pleaded guilty to taking a car unlawfully and driving it without insurance and without a licence.

Ipswich Crown Court heard that Parnell carried out an ill-judged overtaking manoeuvre prior to crashing into a Vauxhall Corsa on the A12 at Kelsale on April 21 2021.

It is said that Parnell’s car was completely on the wrong side of road as the crash occurred.

Parnell was driving a BMW116 and the court previously heard the momentum of the BMW sent the victim's Vauxhall Corsa back nine metres after the collision.

The court is waiting on a health update from the victim and a statement to explain how seriously she has been injured by the crash.

Ipswich Crown Court is also awaiting a toxicology report to find out if Parnel had drugs in his system at the time.

The court heard Parnell has no previous convictions.

Judge Emma Peters requested reports on the defendant and told him he may face a prison sentence.

he case was adjourned with Parnell to return to Ipswich Crown Court for sentencing on Friday, August 16.
