An offer has been made for a site in a Suffolk seaside town that had once been earmarked for a new branch of pub chain Wetherspoon.

Land at 201 Hamilton Road in Felixstowe is currently on the market with estate agents Savills with a list price of £375,000 and is described as being 'under offer'.

The town's Central Surgery used to stand at the site, but was replaced by Grove Medical Centre, which opened in nearby Grove Road in 2014.

In July 2020, East Suffolk Council granted planning permission for a new two-storey Wetherspoon pub to be built on the Hamilton Road site.

The pub was set to be part of a £145million investment by the chain, which would see 18 new pubs opening across the country.

However, this newspaper revealed in August that the vacant and derelict land had been put up for sale again after the chain announced it would not be opening up in Felixstowe.

At the time, Wetherspoon spokesperson Eddie Gershon said: "Wetherspoon can confirm that its site in Felixstowe has been put up for sale.

"Wetherspoon will no longer be developing a pub on the site.

"This is a commercial decision taken by the company."

In the Savills advert, the land's location near to Felixstowe railway station is highlighted, along with its position at the junction between High Road West, High Road East and Hamilton Road, as well as its proximity to the A14 dual carriageway.

The 1,578 sq m site is described as having been cleared, with the exception of a small, single-storey building and a small parcel of land owned by gas distribution company Cadent Gas.
