TV motor show presenter Jeremy Clarkson once said that you're not a true petrolhead until you've owned an Alfa Romeo.

Now Felixstowe resident Angus Thody is trying to remind car enthusiasts of the former Top Gear presenter's sales pitch by using a life-sized cut out of the 6ft 4ins star to sell his Alfa Romeo Spider.

The Cotswolds farmer, who now hosts the TV series Clarkson's Farm, is stood next to the red car in the driveway of Mr Thody's High Road East home in full view of passing motorists, cyclists and pedestrians in the busy street.

Mr Thody said he was losing the love of his lifeMr Thody said he was losing the love of his life (Image: Newsquest) Mr Thody explained that he did not want to sell the 2009 convertible through marketing site Auto Trader because of all the spam adverts and thought using the Clarkson cut out might generate a bit of extra publicity for the sale.

"I just figured this was a better way of drawing attention to my car.

"I thought 'what can I do that is daft and gets people's attention?'" he added.

He has stuck a 'For Sale' notice on the car's windscreen in which he describes how he 'cheated' on the Alfa Romeo with a bicycle.

The notice reads: "We've only been together for nine years, but it is with a heavy heart that I let go of the love of my life: a beautiful 2009 Alfa Romeo Spider Convertible JTS, 2.2 litre.

"It's not her, it's me. I need to move on, to a bicycle, but you could be the lucky one to take this fine, red blooded, Italian beauty home."

Further on, he describes how the Romeo had got the "moves" and "distinctive Alfa Romeo engine growl" while the driving experience would make your "heart race and your palms sweat".

He said "every single mile with the Alfa Romeo had been filled with joy, laughter and the occasional scream".

The Spider, which has 12 months MOT and is in "perfect health" is being sold for £7,499.99 ONO.
