Plans for eight homes off a village street have been refused after a number of concerns.

MB Homes Anglia Ltd submitted proposals to build on land at the rear of 124 High Street, Lakenheath, in May.

A planning statement lodged with West Suffolk Council said the development would offer a "sustainable location for residential development".

Access to the site would be created by an existing driveway between 124 High Street and 132 High Street.

Four three-bedroom properties and four four-bedroom homes were planned for the site.

However, a number of objections were received in response to the proposals.

Concerns included the access not being suitable or safe, overdevelopment of the land and a loss of privacy.

An officer's delegated report said the proposal "constitutes poor design".

The layout was described as "cramped and contrived", while the report added it appeared the was "insufficient" space for emergency vehicles.

"The proposal is unsympathetic to the characteristics of the locality and fails to create a strong sense of place and distinctiveness," the report said.
