The victim of a suspected attempted murder in a south Suffolk village has been named as police search for her missing jacket and phone.

An image of Anita Rose has been released as police continue their investigation.

The 57-year-old left her home in Brantham at 5am on Wednesday to take her dog, a Springer Spaniel named Bruce, on a walk. 

At 6.25am a member of the public called 999 after finding Ms Rose lying unconscious on a track road near the railway line of Rectory Lane.

She was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge in a critical condition after sustaining significant head and brain injuries

In a statement, Ms Rose's family said: "Mum is a very local woman who walked her beloved dog every day.

"As a family we are devastated and thank the public for their support so far. If anyone has any information, please come forward and speak to the police."

Officers are also continuing to search for a jacket and iPhone which they believe could hold key information or evidence.

The missing pink zip-up jacket is described as waterproof in material and is believed to be from an outdoor clothing brand like Regatta.

At a press conference on Thursday, Detective Superintendent Mike Brown said: "We are following a number of lines of enquiry.

"It is still very early in this investigation - we've kept a very, very open mind into what may have happened."

Members of the local community and councillors have also shared their shock at the incident.
