A man from Haverhill has been handed two orders after being charged with stalking.

Nigel Proctor, 56, of Girton Road, appeared before Suffolk Magistrates' Court on Monday, July 15 after previously being charged with stalking.

After denying carrying out acts associated with stalking, an application was made by Suffolk police.

Proctor was subsequently made the subject of two interim stalking protection orders.

The order prohibits him from contacting or approaching the two alleged female victims as well as stopping him from entering certain areas of the town.

Proctor also must immediately provide and surrender any electronic device that can record images and must give the police access to all passwords and log in details.

Suffolk police said the magistrates were "satisfied" that the risk to the alleged victims was enough to grant two interim stalking protection orders.

The Stalking Protection Act 2019 introduced a new civil Stalking Protection Order which can be applied for by the police.

They allow early police intervention, pre-conviction to address stalking behaviours before they escalate in severity, and to protect victims from more serious harm.

Orders enforce conditions on those suspected of stalking prior to charge or trial.

A breach of an order is a criminal offence and can be punishable with imprisonment of up to 12-months, a fine or both.

A full hearing will take place at Suffolk Magistrates' Court on October 22.
