A woman in her 60s is in a critical condition in hospital after her bicycle was hit by a car.

Emergency services were called to the A143 at Sudbury at around 4.20pm on Friday.

They had received reports of a crash between a black Volkswagen Polo and a bicycle on the junction with Newmans Green.

An ambulance service spokesman confirmed that two ambulances, a rapid response vehicle, a Suffolk accident rescue vehicle and an air ambulance were at the scene.

The cyclist was airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital with serious injuries.

She remains there and her injuries are being described as critical but stable.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision.
