A public consultation for a new supermarket in a Suffolk town has been launched.

Lidl has unveiled a survey as part of its plans for a new store in Ipswich Road in Hadleigh.

The German budget supermarket chain says access to the site will be from Lady Lane, to the east of the development.

The 1,962 sqm store would include warehouse space, a bakery and customer toilets.

An estimated 40 new jobs will be created if given the go-ahead.

About 115 parking spaces would be available for customers.

It is planned to open from 8am until 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10am until 4pm on Sundays.

Residents in the area are now being invited to share their views on the proposals through an online consultation.

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Andrew Hodgkinson, commented: “We are seeking local feedback on our exciting plans to bring a new Lidl store to Hadleigh.

"The store would provide the community with greater access to our high-quality products at the best value, while creating new jobs for local people. We hope as many residents as possible contribute to the public consultation to ensure their voices are heard.”

Lidl identified a number of towns across Suffolk where it was keen to open its doors earlier this year.

Hadleigh was revealed as one of its target locations, while Bury St Edmunds, Halesworth, Ipswich, Mildenhall, Newmarket, Saxmundham and Sudbury have also been earmarked for development.

Coffee chain Starbucks is currently building a branch along Ipswich Road in the town.
