Carnival organisers have provided reassurances about the safety of a funfair after a number of revellers suffered injuries, including cuts nearly an inch long, while using it.

The incidents happened at the Paul Hedges Fun Fair, which was held as part of Felixstowe Carnival over the weekend, but carnival organiser Sarah Gooch said it was a "minor thing".

She said: "We were made aware of a small number of injuries on a particular ride. We met with the fair organiser and together with the owner and a member of the medical team, identified the cause of the issue.

"It was a minor thing. We identified it quickly and resolved it straight away so there were no further problems.

"It was not a safety issue. There was nothing wrong with the rides at all."

However, a statement from the carnival committee on the Felixstowe Carnival page on social media site Facebook said the committee had expressed its "concerns and disappointment" to the operators of the dodgems and waltzers.

The statement added: "We have impressed upon all, the need to introduce heightened safety measures and they have been completely cooperative and implemented additional safeguards.

"All ride operators have been additionally reminded of the safe operation procedures and additional supervisory checks will be conducted throughout the day."

Sarah said the funfair would be returning "in some form" next year, but discussions would happen later this year when formal planning started for 2025's event.

The injuries were dealt with by EAS Medical, which provides care at public and private gatherings in Essex and Suffolk.

The Paul Hedges Fun Fair and EAS Medical have been approached for comment.
