A woman from Haverhill had struggled with her mental health for many years and suffered a miscarriage before her death aged 22, a court heard.

On Monday, the inquest into the death of Annalise Rideout, known to her friends and family as Anna, was brought to a close at Suffolk Coroners' Court in Ipswich.

In a tribute written by her family, Miss Rideout’s mother, Sarah, said that her daughter had struggled with her mental health since the age of 12, but had “persevered and tried to live her life to the fullest”.

“We miss her terribly and each day is harder than any of us could have imagined,” she said. “We love you, princess.”

After her parents separated when she was young, Miss Rideout moved from Southampton to Bury St Edmunds with her mother.

Her teen years were incredibly difficult for Miss Rideout. She was in a number of abusive relationships, struggled with drug addiction and became homeless for a time.

At her inquest, her father, Kenneth Rideout, told the court that he wanted his daughter to return to Southampton with him, but that she felt her life was in Suffolk.

In 2021, Miss Rideout was found a home in Haverhill, where she enjoyed living and “putting her stamp” on the flat. She had also embarked on a new relationship with a man who treated her with kindness and respect.

Miss Rideout was still meeting with mental health clinicians throughout 2022 and 2023 and was diagnosed with emotionally unstable personality disorder with complex post-traumatic personality disorder.

In the months before her death, Mr Rideout said that would come and collect his daughter at least once a month, and that she seemed much happier.

“This was a new beginning for her,” he said. “I thought they were on their way to getting on in life.”

He would enjoy going on walks with his partner and daughter to the New Forest, and remembers them all laughing together, sharing jokes.

In September 2023, Miss Rideout was delighted to find that she was pregnant. However, she went on to suffer a miscarriage.

The loss of her baby caused a sharp drop in Miss Rideout’s mental health.

On October 1, she telephoned her partner, expressing her intention to take her own life.

Despite his attempts to alert emergency services and to get to Miss Rideout in time, she took action to end her life.

She died in Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge on October 5 last year.

Assistant coroner for Suffolk Dr Daniel Sharpstone recorded a conclusion of suicide.
