A woman who lives next to a junction on a main route into Sudbury has called for something to be done to prevent "nuisance" motorcycle noise in the area.

Michelle Starkey, who lives by the traffic lights where Ballingdon Street meets Ballingdon Hill and Middleton Road, said the noise of motorcyclists at the junction, and pulling away up the hill, is becoming an issue.

She said the sound sometimes overpowers the TV in the home and ruins peaceful days in the garden.

"It is the motorbikes that are the problem, it is not the road noise as we take that on the chin because we live by a busy road," said Ms Starkey.

"It is the bikes that sit at the lights and rev and use it as a speed track. The noise is sometimes incredible.

"We have put secondary glazing in our house but you still sometimes have to turn the TV up to be able to hear it.

"The main problem is sitting in the garden in the summer - if you're having a conversation you have to stop and let the noise go."

She said she wishes riders would "have a bit of consideration" for the neighbours and said she believes she hears the noise about 50 times a day at the weekends during the summer months.

"It is a nuisance and I would think that they must be speeding going up Ballingdon Hill as well," she said.

"Something needs to be done. It needs to be looked at in some way."

Ms Starkey suggested police could carry out checks on the hill to see if riders are speeding.

She also said signage reminding people to be aware of the neighbours would be welcomed in the area.
