An alcoholic who grabbed his partner round the throat during a row about cooking has been given a suspended prison sentence.
The victim had just got out of the shower when the argument started and Darryl Breslin had grabbed her neck and pushed her against a wall, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
On another occasion Breslin’s partner had arrived home from work and there had been a row after she realised he’d been drinking.
He had got her in a headlock and tried to get her on the floor and when she tried to get away he had blocked her path and grabbed her hair.
Breslin, 33, of Engelhard Road, Newmarket, admitted intentional strangulation in May last year and assault by beating on June 5 last year.
He was given a 12 month prison sentence suspended for 24 months, a 12 month alcohol treatment programme, a mental health treatment order and a 25 day rehabilitation activity requirement.
The court heard that following Breslin’s arrest his partner had withdrawn her support for the prosecution and didn’t want the court to make a restraining order.
