An orchestra is set to unveil eight new compositions to celebrate mentorship scheme.

Britten Sinfonia, a leading chamber orchestra, marks the end of its Opus 1 programme on September 21 with eight world premieres.

Rooted in the East of England while boasting a national and global reputation, the orchestra is set to perform at The Painted Church, Cambridge.

The Opus 1 programme extends opportunities to aspiring composers to hone their skills alongside experienced Britten Sinfonia musicians.

Those not previously involved in related schemes are encouraged to participate, with this year's beneficiaries named as: Matthew Elderton-Lewis, Sam Greening, Lucy Holmes, Chris Kirkham, Joe Mathawaphan, Vishak Ramaprasad, Harry Rees, and Caroline Tyler.

The aforementioned composers have written music for unique combinations of oboe, cello, marimba, piccolo, trombone, and harp.

Each piece is set to make its debut at the celebration.

Active participants in fostering education and participation beyond the concert hall, Britten Sinfonia also extends an invitation to concert-goers to meet the composers post-performance at a reception.

Admission is £8 and £5 for students.
