An acclaimed pizza takeaway has closed after just under two years of trading in Suffolk.

Sweeney's Pizzeria, a mobile pizza company that once traded at the Trowel and Hammer pub in Cotton, has announced it will cease trading.

Owner Craig Sweeney has been looking for new premises since May after a six-week stint at the Trowel and Hammer came to an end.

The company made previously made into the finals of the Italian Awards for Best Pizza in both 2023 and 2024, beating thousands of other pizzerias to the illustrious finals.

The business announced the news on social media that read: "There's no buttering it up, but I just cannot finance the business whilst it is closed any longer.

"Since moving to Suffolk we have had the best time, we really have and we can't thank our amazing, loyal and kind customers enough. From everyone we've worked with to the staff, thank you."

The pizzeria first launched in October 2022 and has since travelled around the county, serving woodfired pizza.

Sweeney's Pizzeria then traded in locations around Ipswich such as Portman Road, Suffolk Water Park and the Arcade Tavern pub and in markets in Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket before its time at Trowel and Hammer.

They then moved to The Outlook at Fox's Marina and traded there for a short period of time before they made the recent announcement.

Mr Sweeney has been a chef since the age of 15 when he was excluded from school and has frequently spoken of his passion for food

He finished the recent social media statement: "I really, really did hope we would find something suitable and be able to reopen permanently but I'm just out of time.

"If you are interested in buying the equipment/business assets, please do let me know. I'm sorry and thank you."
