A man has been arrested after a serious assault in a Suffolk town.
Emergency services were called to Newmarket High Street at around 3.30pm on Monday after reports of an assault.
Upon arrival, police found that a man had been badly injured after he was attacked in the doorway of an empty shop.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment for facial wounds.
Officers then detained a man in his 30s after stopping a car in the town.
The man appeared in court this morning in relation to other charges and has been bailed for suspected assault causing GBH while officers investigate.
Inspector Tim Scott said: “This was a serious assault but I want to reassure the public that we quickly detained a suspect and that there is no wider threat to the community.”
