We've launched a special 50% off for six months offer on our digital subscriptions - and dropped the price of the normal monthly package. Mark Heath explains why...

Back in April, we launched our first-ever digital subscriptions on the EADT.

It was, without doubt, a move that all of us in the sports team had reservations about - the concept of asking folks to pay for online content they'd previously got free was, and is, a difficult one.

But, as I explained at the time, newspaper sales are in terminal decline across the industry, and we simply have to find new ways of supporting what we do.

With advertising a key part of the journalism business model, that's meant a lot more appearing on our websites - and we know that can make the user experience less than ideal.

So, we came up with a way of removing it - by offering digital subscriptions, you can get ad-light versions of our website and access to a brilliant totally ad-free app, all while supporting the work we do in bringing you our Ipswich Town coverage.

Thousands of you supported us - the launch was the most successful Newsquest has ever had - and we were incredibly grateful for that.

At the same time, the main piece of feedback we were getting consistently was that the standard monthly price of £7.99 was too much.

And, frankly, you were spot on. So, as a way of saying thank you for the support so far, we're doing three things:

- We've dropped the standard monthly price of an EADT digital subscription to £5.99 for the full package, or just £4.99 if you only want the website.

- If you're already a subscriber, you should have had an email offering you an exclusive annual price for our content.

- We've launched a 50% off for six months sale. That means £2.99 per month for the rest of the season or, if you take the annual offer, just £15.

That's what we're doing about pricing then. But why should you sign up if you've not already?

Well, for years now, Stuart Watson, Ross Halls and I have been dedicated to bringing you the best possible Ipswich Town coverage.

Through the bleak days of Marcus, Big Mick and a series of Pauls - Hurst, Lambert and Cook - we've tried to be a critical friend to the club. Always supportive, always hopeful but also always willing to ask difficult questions and call for change when required.

We added young gun Alex Jones to our team in the summer, fresh from covering Millwall in the Championship last season.

And now, as Town look like they're going to mount another promotion push, this time for the land of milk and honey in the Premier League, we'll be there every step of the way for you.

As a subscriber, you'll get access to all our premium content - monthly exclusive interviews, analysis, opinion, columnists and loads of video, including being able to watch our almost award-winning Kings of Anglia podcast.

You'll get to enter exclusive competitions too. We're currently offering subscribers the chance to win a new third kit shirt, and there will be more coming in the run up to Christmas.

Above all else though, you get to be part of a community. We've always tried to bring you with us behind the scenes as we cover your beloved football club, and we'll continue to find new ways of doing that, getting you closer to the action, reaction and more.

All of us are passionate about what we do, and Ipswich Town Football Club.

I hope that you'll feel this latest offer - and the reduction in price of the standard package - shows how much we appreciate your support and have listened to your feedback.

We are all in this together, so jump on board now and join us on the road, in the press rooms and at every single game until the end of the season.

Who knows - the next stop might even be the Premier League....
