Former Ipswich Town midfielder Tom Carroll has joined MK Dons after turning down a contract offer at Exeter City.

The 32-year-old joined the Grecians last summer after year out of the game following his release from the Blues at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Carroll made 45 appearances in all competitions for the Devon side, scoring one goal as they finished 13th in League One.

Exeter manager Gary Caldwell said: “Last season, Tom spent lots of time away from his wife and two young children, and expressed a desire to move back closer to be with them, which is something that as a club we have to respect.”

He now joins Mike Williamson's side, who were beaten by Crawley Town in the League Two play-off semi-finals after finishing fourth in the regular season.

On signing for the Dons, Carroll said: "It's great to be here and I'm looking forward to getting going!

"I spoke to the manager, and I think we see football in a very similar way, I think the style of play is going to suit me and the group that the staff are getting together looks like it's going to be really strong.

“Hopefully, we can have a good season, and there's no hiding away from the end goal which is promotion."

Overall, Carroll made 17 appearances during his one season at Portman Road after being part of Paul Cook’s drastic ‘Demolition Man’ rebuild in the summer of 2021.

He will link-up with former Town forward Ellis Harrison at Stadium MK.
