Former Ipswich Town defender Christophe Berra has left his role as interim head coach of Huntsville FC in the United States after just six months.

The 39-year-old made the move to the Alabama-based side in January to become assistant coach to former Town player Jack Collison in January, but he was sacked in April.

Berra then stepped into his first senior level managerial role at the MLS Next Pro side - who are effectively the reserve side for MLS club Nashville. 

Overall, he took charge of 12 games, winning just three but secured a 2-1 victory at New England Revolution II in his final game. 

The Scot is returning home to be closer to his family and seeks a new challenge in his homeland.

He shared the news on his LinkedIn page, saying: "The past six months have been an incredible experience during which I've grown significantly, both as a coach and as an individual in Huntsville. I've navigated a new landscape and system, which has enriched me and gave me more determination than ever to succeed.

"This period has been unforgettable for my family and me — making friends, creating memories, and immersing ourselves in a different culture.

"However, with a new family member on the way, it's best for us to return home to be closer to our loved ones during that period."

Berra retired from football in the summer of 2022 after a spell with Raith Rovers, where he started his coaching career as a player-coach. 

He was appointed as a first team coach at Livingston in January 2023 but left at the end of the 2022–23 season before spells coaching at Falkirk and with the Scotland U21s side. 

In total, Berra made 185 appearances and scored 14 goals during his four seasons at Portman Road.
