Ipswich Town winger Nathan Broadhead is expected to miss at least ‘a couple of months’ after picking up a hamstring injury in pre-season, according to manager Kieran McKenna.
The winger, who finished last season as the Blues’ tied-top scorer, didn’t travel to the training camp in Austria ahead of their friendly win against Shakhtar Donetsk.
McKenna has since revealed that, while he won’t need surgery, he’s set to miss the entirety of pre-season, as well as the start of the Premier League campaign.
“Nathan is seeing a specialist with a hamstring injury,” he said after his side’s 2-1 defeat to Fortuna Dusseldorf.
“There’s no surgery required, which in many ways is a positive. It means that the recovery could hopefully be shorter, but it’s still going to be a couple of months minimum.
“He’s an important player for us. It’s a time where we’re short of numbers in terms of what we need for the season, so we don’t want to lose anyone. That’s a disappointing one for him and for us.”
There were a handful of other players who missed out on the clash against the 2. Bundesliga side, including record signing Omari Hutchinson, who is yet to feature since completing his permanent move from Chelsea.
Harry Clarke and Ali Al-Hamadi are still recovering from their respective surgeries, with both players working hard to return as soon as possible.
McKenna said: “Omari has a little niggle. He’s better today, so we’re hoping that he’ll train today and be involved with the games next weekend.
“Harry is further away. He’s not back on the grass yet, so he’s further away. Ali is back on the grass and working individually, not with the team yet, so hopefully it’s a short number of weeks.
“Cameron Humphreys is probably a couple of weeks away, I’ve not had an update in the last day or two. He had an issue, not a huge issue but not a tiny one either, so he’s another couple of weeks away with a thigh injury.
“Wes [Burns] rolled his ankle in a collision [v Fortuna Dusseldorf], so we’ll have to check on how he is.”
