Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna says there will be discussions with trialist Steven Alzate this week and insisted Janoi Donacien's time at the club may not yet be over.
Midfielder Alzate, recently released by Brighton, and full-back Donacien, whose contract at Ipswich recently expired, both featured in a 30-minute training exercise that followed this afternoon's 1-0 home win against Nice at Portman Road.
On seven-cap Colombian international Alzate, McKenna said: "He trained with us on Thursday and Friday. He's a good player, a very experienced player for a relatively young age and isn't with a club at the moment. This is a chance for him to look at us, us to look at him and we'll have some discussions from there."
Donacien made more than 100 appearances for the Blues over a six-year period, proving a reliable figure under McKenna, but he suffered multiple groin injury set-backs last season and didn't see his contract renewed.
"First and foremost it's brilliant to see him back out on the pitch because he's had such a frustrating time with his injury and I know what he's going through," said McKenna, when asked about the 30-year-old's situation.
"It's a big positive to see him looking strong and showing the competitors he is. Beyond that any discussions (about a contract) will happen a little bit further down the line.
"But every single day that Janoi is in the building with us he'll be an important member of this squad because he's made such a fantastic contribution and everyone thinks so highly of him."
