Beautiful autumnal weather captured in Suffolk, but cold weather and heavy rain on the way

Golden leaves have bedecked woodland footpaths. Hedgerows have swayed in cool breezes. Fruits and berries have glinted in the warm sun.

Such scenes have been captured in the serene settings of Christchurch Park in Ipswich and woodlands in Lavenham, Elmsett and Wherstead by staff photographer Sarah Lucy Brown.

Sarah Lucy has been travelling around the county, stopping to capture these key signs of autumn for the last week, immortalising this stunning time of year when the amber hues reign.

“There has been so much nice weather in the last few weeks because of an area of high pressure quite close to the country,” explained James Wilby, forecaster at Weatherquest.

“It can happen at this time of year, when you get block patterns – areas of low pressure being steered away or around those highs. And they can last for up to a few weeks.”

But the new month appears set to herald the start of winter. Warm, sunny days are forecast to be replaced by much colder, rainy weather by the end of the week.

Mr Wilby said: “It looks like holding for a few more days but as we head towards the end of the week it is going to be more unsettled, including outbreaks of rain which could be quite heavy.”

He forecast highs of 10C (50F) during the day and “frosty” nights this week, with north-easterly winds.

“It is going to be a complete contrast. Monday was the last of the warmer days for quite some time,” Mr Wilby added.
