South Suffolk MP James Cartlidge has been appointed as Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury.
He will be working with South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt who was re-appointed to the Cabinet by new Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday, October 25.
Mr Cartlidge tweeted: "Honoured to have been appointed Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury & looking forward to joining Jeremy Hunt & the HM Treasury team."
He has previously held roles in the Public Accounts Commission in November 2015 and the Work and Pensions Committee in October 2016.
In January 2018, Mr Cartlidge was appointed as Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to then Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt and remained in this role when Mr Hunt was promoted as Foreign Secretary.
In August 2019, he was appointed PPS to the Defence Secretary, Ben Wallace, and was appointed as PPS to Rishi Sunak as Chancellor of the Exchequer in February 2020.
On September 17, 2021, Mr Cartlidge became Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice and an Assistant Government Whip, but resigned from government in protest at Boris Johnson's premiership.
