Progress has been made on £15 million plans for a new community diagnostic centre in Newmarket which will "help bust Covid backlogs".
In October, health secretary and Suffolk Coastal MP Therese Coffey announced that Newmarket had been approved as one of 10 new community diagnostic centres to "help bust the Covid backlogs by delivering vital tests, checks and scans in local areas".
A formal planning application has now been submitted to West Suffolk Council for the construction of the new centre next to Newmarket Community Hospital in Exning Road.
As part of a £15 million project, residents will have access to new MRI and CT scanners, upgraded X-ray and ultrasound suites and additional, cardiology, lung function and phlebotomy services.
The design and access statement suggests that construction of the centre will provide 99,903 tests and scans per annum.
Design plans reveal that the centre will be a single-storey building, complete with a waiting room, reception, imaging areas and an inpatient area for diagnostic procedures.
