Plans for 10 new homes have been refused by the council on the grounds that it will not contribute towards the Suffolk village's infrastructure.

First submitted in November 2018, Orwell Housing and Porch Builders Ltd proposed the construction of ten homes on land at Haggars Mead in Earl Stonham.

While the planning application stated that Earl Stonham Parish Council was "in support of the proposal," with conditions that the properties consist of a mixture of two-bed, three-bed and bungalow properties.

They also requested that the sewereage system has a "complete overhaul" to ensure its efficiency.

After revisions to the site layout in early 2019, Mid Suffolk District Council has now refused the application.

It said the proposed location is "not considered to be sustainable," highlighting that the nearest facilities are within the village of Stowupland - 2.4 miles away from Haggars Mead.

The council added that there was "no identified local need referenced" and the development would bring "negligible social and economic benefits".

Another major issue identified was that the application "fails to provide any legal agreement to secure contribution towards infrastructure provision or the delivery of affordable housing".
