A Suffolk village library is moving into a new venue after it was forced to shut its doors suddenly earlier this year.

Long Melford's library was shut suddenly in January after the Cordell Road site they had rented since April 2022 closed.

The building is owned by the Royal British Legion which gave no reason for the closure, but alerted Suffolk Libraries that it would take immediate effect.

Four months later, the library has now found a new home and, from Tuesday, June 13, will be based at St Catherine's Church.

As there is currently no WiFi at the venue, computer access and self-service facilities will be unavailable for the time being, with a view to resolving this issue imminently.

Long Melford Library manager Nick Castell said: “We’re delighted to have found a new home and are looking forward to welcoming back customers in June.

"We’re incredibly grateful to the church for accommodating us and are excited about the potential for the new library and what we can offer the local community.”
