Progress has been made on proposals which could see the former Hazelwood Dance Studio in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk become four new flats.

Submitted at the beginning of this year, the proposals would see the conversion of Grade II listed building 110 Northgate Street, which formerly housed Hazelwood Dance Studio.

The property could now become four self-contained apartments, to include two one-bedroom and two two-bedroom units.

The plans which have been submitted to West Suffolk Council also detail the addition of a roof terrace and sitting room on the flat roof area.

The design statement says the elevations will remain largely the same, in a "contemporary but recessive design that respects the context of the listed heritage asset".

110 Northgate Street in Bury St Edmunds was originally built as a residential dwelling in the mid-18th century and was later converted to become the County Grammar School.

The northern range of the property, to which this application pertains, is believed to have been the school library and was later occupied by Hazelwood Dance Studio until Autumn 2021 when it moved to Hollow Road.
