Eight new homes and 64 new parking spaces will be created in a west Suffolk town, following the demolition of 70 existing garages, after plans put to a council early last year were given the green light.
Applicant Flagship Housing Group Ltd submitted plans for the demolition and subsequent redevelopment of four garage areas in Emmanuel Close, Mildenhall, in March 2023.
The application proposed eight new-builds for the site, seven of which would have two bedrooms and one of which would have three.
In 2017, the same developer asked for permission to demolish the existing garages across Pembroke Close, Newnham Close, Downing Close, Peterhouse Close and Emmanuel Close to create 42 affordable homes for rent.
However, these were refused due to a shortfall in parking provision and concerns relating to impact upon residential amenity, but proposals were revised and they were approved in December 2020.
On December 19, West Suffolk Council approved the Emmanuel Close plans.
An officer report found the proposal 'would not have a significant harmful impact on the amenity of neighbouring dwellings' and would have a positive impact on the street scene.
