A man who admitted contacting a woman despite a restraining order will be sentenced at a later date after a judge was unable to hear the barristers.
Adam Mason, 44, of Gloucester Road, Bury St Edmunds, was up for sentencing at Ipswich Crown Court by Judge Martyn Levett on Monday after admitting he had breached a restraining order in January.
The prosecution and defence barristers appeared via video link but the quality of the audio was described by Judge Levett as "not even a bat could possibly hear what was being said".
The court heard broken audio from prosecutor Eleanor Sheerin who said Mason had sent WhatsApp messages to a woman despite the conditions of the restraining order forbidding him from speaking to her.
According to the prosecutor he had written to her “I love you”, “I miss you so much”, then insulted her and sent a YouTube link to a love song.
But after this, the barrister’s audio quality deteriorated to the point the defendant himself said he could not hear what was being said.
Judge Levett adjourned the proceedings and said he would not set a new date until the court’s sound system was fixed.
