The very first pub taken on by the Chestnut Group has been given a major makeover.
The Packhorse Inn at Moulton, near Newmarket, reopened on April 5 following a two-month refurbishment and extension project costing around £1.5m.
The pub has been an important village hub and food destination since it was taken on by Chestnut Group founder and boss Philip Turner 10 years ago who was keen to save his local.
It now includes a "significant" kitchen extension, a new flint and timber barn extension with views over the village green and the original entrance into a dedicated bar has been re-established.
A new eight-bedroom barn to the rear of the pub will open in the summer - taking the total number of rooms available to 16. It features large windows covering the length of the building which overlook the village green.
Across the group there are now 17 pubs across East Anglia.
“Our three priorities were to put the pub back into the pub, create a better working space for our chefs and make the most of the views across the village green," said Philip.
"The Packhorse is where the Chestnut journey began, we have not lost sight of that and are privileged to be able to take the pub to its next stage.”
The much larger kitchen includes big windows looking out into the garden creating - and a window between the kitchen and the private dining and event space – so that guests can watch chefs at work.
The Packhorse Inn is dog-friendly throughout including bedrooms.
