A man from Bury St Edmunds has been jailed for six years for rape and assault.
Darren Merchant, 50, was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday for charges of rape, assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH) and damaging property.
Merchant, of Maundy Close, denied these charges but was found guilty at trial.
He was sentenced to five years in prison for rape, and 12 months imprisonment for the ABH.
These sentences will run consecutively, bringing the total to six years, of which Merchant will serve half in custody.
An order of no separate penalty was made for the remaining offence of damaging property.
He was also given a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years and told he must register his details with the police indefinitely.
He will also pay a victim surcharge of £170.
