Charges against an Ipswich man accused of rape, kidnapping, strangulation and impersonating a police officer have been dropped.
Trevor Maiden, 55, of Cavendish Street, in Ipswich, appeared before Suffolk Magistrates' Court last month where he was charged with six offences.
The Crown Prosecution Service has discontinued the case as a result of a lack of evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction, it is understood.
A spokesman for Suffolk police said: "As a result of the case being discontinued at court, the charges were withdrawn and the suspect released from custody."
Suffolk police confirmed a police investigation into the allegations is still ongoing.
