A team from Suffolk Rural College donned their favourite football shirts for work today to support a colleague's charitable efforts on behalf of his best friend.
Football Shirt Friday is an annual campaign organised by Cancer Research UK to raise awareness and funds for cancer research and is run in association with The Bobby Moore Fund.
The college support was organised by Tom Marsden – an inclusive learning lecturer at the Suffolk Rural Campus.
Tom’s best friend Gary is currently receiving treatment for stage four bowel cancer and this is one of a number of fundraisers Tom has been involved in.
Other previous events include a football fun day and a Three Peaks Challenge, which between them have raised around £67,000 to support Gary’s non-NHS treatment.
Tom – an Ipswich Town and Spurs fan said: “Bowel cancer is the biggest cancer killer of under 40s in the UK and it is important to spread awareness. My colleagues have got behind the campaign and it is very heartwarming that they want to support me and my good friend Gary.
“We have more activities planned later in the year including a football game in the summer.”
