An east Suffolk van driver has been banned from the roads and ordered by magistrates to pay out more than £500 after he was found using his mobile phone while at the wheel.
Robert Karim Wormald, aged 31 and of Saxonfields in Snape, near Aldeburgh, was accused of driving a Ford Transit on September 4 last year in Pentonville Road, in Islington in north London, while using a handheld mobile phone.
Wormald pleaded guilty to the charge, which was dealt with via single justice procedure at Willesden Magistrates' Court in London.
The single justice procedure deals with more minor summary offences that are not heard before a crown court.
Wormald was disqualified from holding and obtaining a driving licence for six months, and his driving record was endorsed with six penalty points.
The disqualification was described as "obligatory due to repeat offending", according to a court listing.
He was also fined £316, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £126 and costs of £100.
The fines and costs total £542.
