A community leader is reassuring members of the public that her town centre "is safe" after two violent assaults in a matter of months.
The mayor of Sudbury has spoken out after two assaults in the town centre in recent months saw people requiring hospital treatment for their injuries.
Jan Osborne said: "Sudbury town centre is a safe place.
"It is very unfortunate that we have had two incidents that run very close together.
"But we have CCTV coverage now, which should act as a deterrent. But I want to emphasise that it is still a safe place to be.
"Obviously it is concerning to hear about another incident but I am sure the police have got this all in hand.
"The CCTV helped recognise the people involved in the assault in February."
Mrs Osborne is also hoping that people are not put off from enjoying a night out in the town after the incidents.
The most recent of the two happened in the early hours of Sunday as two people were left needing hospital treatment after being assaulted in North Street.
Police were called to reports of a fight and one of the victims also had their wallet stolen.
The extent of their injuries is not yet known.
Earlier this year, at about 10.10pm on Saturday, February 3, a man was knocked unconscious outside the White Horse pub, also in North Street.
The victim suffered a broken nose and after he was grabbed around the throat, pushed to the ground and stamped on, punched and kicked several times.
Police were looking to speak with three people, who have been described as men in their 20s.
Suffolk police released CCTV images of the three men they wanted to speak to in connection with the incident.
