A road will be closed for nearly two months while essential repair work is carried out.

The B1079 in Otley Bottom, near Otley College, was initially due to be closed while Suffolk Highways carried out urgent roadworks from May 6 to May 27.

It followed an emergency road closure installed due to deterioration caused by flooding and bad weather that hit the county.

At the end of April, Suffolk Highways said the roadworks would be taking place at a later date in May.

The B1079 will be closed for carriageway bank stabilisation and carriageway reconstruction from Tuesday, May 28 until Tuesday, July 23.

A spokesman said: "For the safety of highway users and our operatives, a full closure will be implemented during our works.

"At present, we estimate that repairs will take around eight weeks, although every effort will be made to enable the road to reopen as soon as it is safe to do so."

The official diversion route will be 20 miles as it takes drivers along A roads as large HGVs cannot go down smaller roads.
