Summer is the perfect time to meet family and friends at the pub for a catch-up over a beer or two. 

With the weather expected to get warmer in the coming weeks, here are seven pubs near railway stations for a pint pitstop.

All of the pubs are less than a 15 minute walk from the stations.

1. The Old Cannon Brewery

Where: Cannon Street, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 1JR

Open hours: 12pm until 8.30pm (9pm on Friday and Saturday, 5pm on Sunday)

The Old Cannon Brewery is an eight minute walk for Bury St Edmunds station and is open for food and drinks. 

The brewery started in 1845 with its owners Fordham of Ashwell and makes beers with a focus on traditional ales.

2. Thomas Wolsey

Where: St Peter's Street, Ipswich, IP1 1XF

Open hours: 12pm until 12am (11pm on Monday to Wednesday, 7pm on Sunday)

The historic pub was taken over by Red Oak Taverns in February last year and is known for hosting up to four ales from local or East Anglian Breweries. 

It is a 12 minute walk from Ipswich station while Derby Road station is a longer trek away at just over 30 minutes. 

3. The Royal Oak

Where: Ipswich Street, Stowmarket, IP14 1AH

Open hours: 11am until 11pm (12am on Friday and Saturday, 10pm on Sunday)

As well as serving food and drink, the pub is also the space for sports enthusiasts with fixtures being shown on TNT Sports and Sky Sports every week. 

It is a seven minute walk from Stowmarket station and this summer will be showing England's matches in the Euros.

4. Eight Bells

Where: Colchester Road, Bures, CO8 5AE

Open hours: 12pm until 11pm

Located on the Suffolk and Essex border, the Eight Bells is a five minute walk from Bures station. 

In 2022 landlord Willie Amos celebrated owning the pub for more than 40 years after purchasing it with his late wife Barbara in 1980.

5. Weavers Tap

Where: Queensbury House, Sudbury, C010 2HX

Open hours: 11am until 11pm (1am on Friday and Saturday, 10pm on Sunday)

The Weavers Tap is a sports bar with a rustic and warm atmosphere serving a range of beers, cask ales and cocktails. 

It also serves food every day and is a nine minute walk from Sudbury station.

6. White Hart

Where: Thoroughfare, Halesworth, IP19 8AH

Open hours: 11am until 11pm (12am on Friday and Saturday)

The principal supplier for the White Hart is local brewery Adnams and a minimum of three cask ales are always available. 

The pub is located in one of the best places to live and is a seven minute walk from Halesworth station.

7. The Wilford Bridge

Open hours: 11am until 10pm 

Owned by pub group Deben Inns, The Wilford Bridge is located in the heart of the village and is a five minute walk from Melton station. 

The food menu included hearty pub classics showcasing local and seasonal ingredients.
