Environment and community groups hope to have the chance to question parliamentary candidates for the Suffolk Coastal constituency.

Stop Sizewell C and Suffolk Energy Action Solutions (SEAS) have organised a hustings for the Suffolk Coastal seat, which will take place on Sunday between 6:30pm and 8pm at Aldeburgh Parish Church.

Plans for new nuclear power station Sizewell C, offshore windfarms, the National Grid and other major energy projects will be on the agenda for debate.

The organisers argue that Suffolk Coastal is a key part of the UK's future energy provision and as such the impact on the community must be considered.

Fiona Gilmore, of SEAS, said: “These hustings come at a turning point in the debate about how to deliver renewable energy.

"Any future MP who represents this constituency must understand and support the better offshore solutions using brownfield sites for energy hubs, and do more than talk the talk; they must convince us that they will get results.”

All the candidates for the Suffolk Coastal seat have been invited to take part in the hustings. However, the Reform candidate has, so far, not accepted the invitation.

Dr Thérèse Coffey has held the seat since 2010, holding a majority of more than 20,000 votes in 2020. She is seeking re-election as the Conservative candidate for the seat.

She has previously said that she understood the need for the nuclear power station, but objects to why the Secretary of State approved it against the recommendation of the planning inspectorate

Mrs Riddell-Carpenter has said that if elected she will launch a Sizewell C task force to ensure that constituents reap the full benefits of the power station.
