A young man who featured in a Christina Aguilera video was among the high achievers celebrated in a prestigious education award ceremony.

Eastern Education Group (EEG) held its annual 'Celebration of Achievement' to honour the dedication and accomplishments of students from West Suffolk College Sixth Form, Abbeygate Sixth Form in Bury St Edmunds, and One Sixth Form in Ipswich.

It took place on June 25 at the Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds.

Dr Nikos Savvas, chief executive officer of the EEG said: “Tonight is one of my favourite nights of the year.

"I love celebrating the hard work, dedication, and effort that so many of our young people have put in to their studies."

One of the prize-winners was Oliver Jenkins, 18, recipient of the principal's choice award.

Oliver, who studied musical theatre at West Suffolk College Sixth Form, starred in a Christina Aguilera video and has appeared in numerous productions created by the acting arm of the college, Conservatoire East.

Oliver said: Winning this is quite a big thing.

"I’ve obviously done something right, I’m proud of myself and my hard work has paid off."

The awards also celebrated the efforts of twin sisters, Hannah and Isobel Perry, 18 from Bury St Edmunds, who along with Scarlett Petty, 19 from Saffron Walden, and Ellie Stevens, 17 from Stowmarket, received the community champion award for launching a feminist book club at Abbeygate Sixth Form College.

Amber Bradnam, 18, from Bury St Edmunds was recognised for her support of the community through cricket coaching.

Hamish Crawford from One Sixth Form College was given an accolade for showing remarkable growth and unwavering determination, winning a character strength award.

Two other stand-out students, Marcus Steventon and Stella Godden, received the CEO and Governors choice awards respectively.

Marcus, 19, from Bury St Edmunds, while on a T Level childcare course, collected Christmas presents for children in need.

Stella, 18, also from Bury St Edmunds, was hailed as a brilliant ambassador for Abbeygate Sixth Form college.

The event was hosted by Tanya Verow, a performing arts lecturer at One Sixth Form College, and all winners were presented with a trophy.
