Three-year-old Dogue de Bordeaux cross, Roxy, was found huddled by a bush on a driveway in April.
RSCPA Inspector Nicky Thorne has launched an investigation into how Roxy became so neglected, "Roxy is painfully skinny; you can see all of her bones and every single rib.
She’s just skin and bone."
Roxy was taken in by the National Animal Welfare Trust in Clacton and now she needs a new home.
A local resident Emma Fowler found her, “I was shocked to see Roxy curled up on our drive, she looked starving and shockingly thin but she was so sweet once she realised we were friends and we were there to help her.
She was grateful for the attention and it was such a relief to get her to safety."
Stacey Sheppard, from National Animal Welfare Trust Essex, said “We’ve been feeding Roxy a good diet and giving her lots and lots of cuddles, and she’s now feeling a lot better, but still has further to go."
Anyone interested in offering Roxy a new home will need to work with the team at National Animal Welfare Trust.
She struggles being left alone so will need a family willing to help her settle before teaching her it's okay to be left alone.
Ms Sheppard added, "Life for Roxy will be full of firsts so she'll need a patient owner who can guide her paws along the way."
The team taking care of Roxy said she enjoys the company of other dogs so may be able to live with another dog, but would like a home without young children.
Anyone who might recognise Roxy from the local areas of Halstead and Boxted, anyone who knows someone who previously owned a dog that looks like Roxy, or anyone with any information can call the RSPCA’s appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
