A man has raised more than £1,300 by shaving his head, beard, and eyebrows for a hospital unit.
Nigel Thompson, a print embroiderer, recently underwent a full head, beard, and eyebrow shave, amassing a total of £1,384.15 for the Macmillan Unit at West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.
The event took place at the White Hart pub in Tuddenham, where regulars generously backed Mr Thompson's fundraiser.
Mr Thompson conducted the fundraising shave in gratitude for the unit's care toward a pub associate currently receiving cancer treatment.
He said: “I did it because someone I know is going through some cancer treatment at the moment and I asked what charity they wanted me to donate the money to."
As a frequenter of the pub, Mr Thompson leveraged his friends and family on his Facebook page to rally support and donations.
The eyebrow shave alone contributed £230 to the total sum.
Hairdresser Sandra Byatt Feakes from Sandra Byatt Hair and Beauty salon conducted the shave.
In reflecting on the event, Mr Thompson admitted his surprise at the outcome.
He said: “I just wanted to do something to raise money and I didn’t think I would get as much as I did but I said I was going to do it for charity and everyone gave so generously.”
The funds were presented to the My WiSH Charity, which bolsters the work of West Suffolk Hospital.
Sally Daniels, the charity's fundraising manager, praised Mr Thompson's act and the impact of the donation.
Ms Daniels said: "This was an incredible total raised which just shows the support both Nigel and his friend have received from friends and family.
“To lose his beard and hair was brave enough but to agree to lose his eyebrows too was an above and beyond act.
"This money will make a huge difference so thank you, Nigel."
