Police cordons that were put in place while a murder investigation into the death of a 57-year-old woman in a south Suffolk village have been lifted. 

Two cordons were put in place in the Newmill Lane area of Brantham last week as detectives carried out checks after the death of Anita Rose, who was attacked while walking her dog.

Ms Rose, 57, found injured and unconscious on a track road near Rectory Lane by a member of the public on the morning of Wednesday, July 24. 

Suffolk police has confirmed that cordons off Newmill Lane were lifted Thursday afternoon but the murder investigation is continuing.

Earlier this week, Suffolk police quashed online rumours that Ms Rose had been killed by two Somali migrants. 

Detective Superintendent Mike Brown said: "All police cordons in the village have now been lifted.

"However, we are continuing our enquiries including CCTV and data analysis, forensic work and collating messages and statements received.

“Over the last two weeks, we have spoken to more than 630 people, including as part of house-to-house enquiries, and as a result of this approximately 90 statements have been taken. We have also received more than 150 messages via our Major Investigation Public Portal and continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.”

Ms Rose, a mother of six, had left her home in Palfrey Heights at 5am to walk her Springer Spaniel Bruce around the nearby area.

Police were called by the East of England Ambulance Service at about 8am after she was found unconscious.

Ms Rose had sustained injuries to her head and face and was taken to Cambridge's Addenbrooke's Hospital, where she died four days later.

Officers continue to search for the pink jacket Ms Rose was wearing prior to the attack.

The jacket is described as a pink, zip-up, waterproof jacket and is believed to be from an outdoor clothing brand, possibly from Regatta.

Officers are particular keen to speak with anyone who may have seen Ms Rose - or anyone else - that morning, especially between 6am and 6.30am, from the top of Newmill Lane, off Ipswich Road, to the track road between the railway line and the Anglia Water sewage treatment plant, near Rectory Lane where she was found.
