The A12 was closed due to an oil spillage.
The southbound carriageway between Colchester and Marks Tey remains closed on Friday following a large oil spillage from a tractor.
Traffic sensors showed severe delays and building queues of traffic on the major route.

A spokesman for National Highways said clear-up works were extended overnight to be completed by 6am on Saturday.
