A Suffolk primary school has retained its good Ofsted rating amid praise for its 'ambitious' curriculum and special educational needs support.
Bawdsey Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School in School Lane, Bawdsey, was visited by Ofsted on June 12 for an ungraded inspection, which confirms a school that had been rated good remains at this standard.
The primary school, which has 74 pupils, was last rated good in a full inspection in July 2014, which was confirmed in a short inspection in July 2018.
During the June visit, inspectors found the school has an "ambitious curriculum" which builds on pupils’ previous knowledge.
In the majority of subjects inspectors said teachers delivered the curriculum well, breaking learning down and checking pupil understanding.
It continued: "However, in some instances, the work teachers set does not always match what pupils know and understand.
"This means that pupils can move on too quickly without having a solid enough understanding of some concepts."
Pupils at the school were said to enjoy reading and teachers support them to become "fluent and competent readers."
The school was described as having an "inclusive culture" which means special educational needs and disabilities pupils learnt well.
The report reads: "The school identifies pupils with SEND as early as possible. Most of the curriculum is adapted so that pupils with SEND can achieve well."
The school was praised for helping pupils learn to manage their behaviour and emotions.
To improve, Ofsted said the school should "ensure that staff implement the curriculum as intended so that pupils build up their knowledge over time effectively in all subjects."
This is the second ungraded inspection since Ofsted judged the school to be good in July 2014.
The watchdog normally goes into a school once every four years to confirm it remains good.
